Indigenous arts and culture festivals expand in New Mexico

Indigenous cultural celebrations are expanding in New Mexico, highlighted by two major events focused on Native music, fashion, and art.

Indigenous House, a Native-women-owned brand and media company, is hosting a two-day takeover of La Fonda on the Plaza. The event features a diverse program including a fireside chat with Secretary Deb Haaland, a panel discussion regarding the film ‘Gangland’, and a Creator Summit for Native storytellers. The celebration includes fashion and jewelry dialogues, musical performances from artists such as Vincent Neil Emerson and Kalyn Fay, and culinary offerings from James Beard Award-winning Chef Sean Sherman.

Simultaneously, the Pathways Indigenous Arts Festival is marking its sixth year at the Pueblo of Pojoaque. The festival brings together more than 350 Indigenous artists for a multi-disciplinary showcase that includes individual artist booths, a Native-centered film and media celebration, and live musical performances, including acts such as Gary Farmer and the Troublemakers.
