Indigenous Challenge Cup returns to Bear Mountain

The 2026 Indigenous Challenge Cup is set to return to Bear Mountain from September 22 to 24. The match play tournament follows a Ryder Cup-style format, pitting eight top Indigenous golfers from British Columbia against a squad from Ontario. Each team will consist of four men and four women.

Historically, the home team has won all three previous editions. British Columbia secured victories in 2023 and 2024, while Ontario won the 2025 title at Taboo Muskoka. The competition will utilize the Mountain Course for morning four-ball matches on September 23 and the Valley Course for afternoon foursomes, concluding with singles matches on September 24.

Team British Columbia is led by captain T’esóts’en (Patrick Kelly) of the Leq’á:mel First Nation. This year’s tournament theme, kw’ekw’i, translates to ‘rising together’ in Halq’eméylem, reflecting a mission to create pathways for Indigenous youth in the sport. The event will also feature a First Tee youth clinic and development sessions.
