Indigenous festivals and fairs energize communities in Brazil

The 8th edition of the Indígenas.BR Festival was held from 4–7 August 2026 at the Centro Cultural Vale Maranhão in Brazil. Curated by Djuena Tikuna and Magda Pucci, the event featured women‑indigenous performances, documentary screenings on Guajajara culture, workshops on indigenous musical education, and concerts blending traditional chants with contemporary arrangements.

In the northern state of Roraima, the Feirinha Cultural Indígena took place in the central square of Uiramutã, gathering more than 20 indigenous artisans and family‑farm producers. Exhibitors such as macuxi artisan Maria das Dores displayed bio‑jewelry made from seeds, feathers and forest fibers, while artists presented indigenous body painting, graphic art and paintings inspired by rupestrian motifs. The fair also hosted children’s games, a reading‑promotion space, and plans to become a monthly event, aiming to sustain indigenous cultural and economic visibility.
