Indigenous festivals Yirramboi and Garma showcase First Nations art

The Yirramboi Festival, a biennial First Nations arts event in Melbourne, will return in May 2027. The 2025 edition featured more than 400 Indigenous creators, over 70 international artists, 180 performances across 40 venues, 16 world premieres and a major music block party.

The Garma Festival, now in its 26th year, is being held in northeast Arnhem Land near Nhulunbuy. Running under the theme Bukmak – “all of us, everyone, together” – the four‑day celebration includes traditional dance by 13 Yolngu clans, policy forums and attendance by federal ministers Penny Wong and Malarndirri McCarthy. The event highlights Yolngu culture, language and connections to Country.
