Indigenous history book documents Northeast Brazil struggles

A new book titled ‘Retomada – Memórias Indigenistas no Nordeste: uma mirada sobre o acervo do CIMI de 1978 a 1988’ has been released, documenting indigenous struggles for rights and territory in Northeast Brazil. The 220-page work is the result of 15 years of research into the archives of the Missionary Indigenous Council (CIMI) Regional Northeast.

The publication features over one hundred photographs, newspaper clippings, and documents detailing the daily lives in villages and the role of indigenous peoples in building a national movement. Organized by researchers Lara Erendira A. de Andrade, Manuela Schillaci, and Alexandre Gomes, the book will be presented in Caruaru and Recife in mid-August. A digital version will be made available online starting September 7.
