Indigenous inmates translate Brazilian Constitution in Roraima
In Roraima, Brazil, indigenous inmates at the Boa Vista Male Public Jail are translating the Federal Constitution into the Macuxi and Wapichana languages. The project, initiated by the Court of Justice of Roraima, was approved by 78 communities in the Serras region of Uiramutã after being presented to them.
As part of a social reintegration initiative, the participating inmates can reduce their sentences by one day for every three days worked. The translation process is currently undergoing review following its completion. The Macuxi and Wapichana languages were selected due to their prevalence among the indigenous populations in the state.
