Indigenous knowledge exchange project links Mexico, Canada, and Hawaii

Students and faculty from the Universidad de Colima (Mexico), North Island College (Canada), and Kapiʻolani Community College (Hawaii) have completed an international project titled “Indigenous Perspectives on Strengthening Environmental Resilience and Sustainable Practice: Mexico, Hawaii, and Canada.”

The initiative utilized online collaborative learning, academic research, and international mobility to exchange knowledge regarding indigenous practices related to the environment and sustainability. As part of the program, journalism students from the Universidad de Colima conducted research on cultural and environmental practices and participated in an 18-day academic residency at North Island College in Canada.

Supported by the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund, the collaboration aimed to use higher education to bridge cultures and seek collective responses to environmental challenges through intercultural indigenous learning.
