IndiGo flight suffers tail strike during landing at Bengaluru airport

An IndiGo Airbus A321 flight (6E 6542) traveling from Guwahati to Bengaluru experienced a tail strike during landing at Kempegowda International Airport on Sunday, September 27.

According to the airline, the aircraft suffered an ‘Abnormal Runway Contact’ due to gusty weather conditions. The flight crew had to perform a go-around during the initial approach, and the tail of the aircraft struck the runway during the second landing attempt. All passengers and crew members disembarked safely without injury.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation into the incident. The aircraft has been grounded for technical inspections and maintenance, and will only return to service once it receives necessary clearances. To minimize passenger disruption, IndiGo arranged an alternate aircraft for the flight's scheduled subsequent leg from Bengaluru to Coimbatore.
