IndiGo flight hit by lightning at 17,000 feet, damages nose

An IndiGo flight (6E925) traveling from Patna to Lucknow made an emergency landing at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport on Wednesday after being struck by lightning at an altitude of approximately 17,000 feet. The aircraft encountered severe weather, including a hailstorm, during its descent.

The lightning strike caused damage to the aircraft's radome (the nose section). Despite the impact and subsequent panic among passengers, the pilot managed to land the plane safely. All 104 passengers and six crew members on board were reported safe and unharmed.

The aircraft has been grounded for technical inspection and maintenance. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched a formal investigation into the incident. IndiGo arranged alternative transportation for passengers scheduled to fly from Lucknow to Ahmedabad.
