IndiGo flight makes emergency landing in Chennai after engine failure
An IndiGo flight traveling from Kolkata to Chennai was forced to make an emergency landing at Chennai Airport late Tuesday night after its left engine failed. The aircraft, carrying between 224 and 229 people, experienced a technical snag accompanied by an oil leak during its approach.
A full emergency was declared at the airport at approximately 11:29 PM. Following safety protocols, the aircraft landed safely on Runway 25 at 11:37 PM. All passengers and crew members were reported safe with no injuries. The emergency declaration was withdrawn ten minutes after the landing, and airport operations returned to normal.
Engineers subsequently inspected the plane and declared it unairworthy, moving it to a remote parking bay for repairs. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a detailed investigation into the engine failure and oil leak.
Separately, an Air India Express flight from Kolkata to Chennai faced a six-hour delay on Wednesday morning due to a technical fault. The delay led to protests by approximately 170 passengers at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, who cited a lack of information and assistance from authorities.
