IndiGo launches 'IndiGo Lite' fare for cabin‑bag‑only passengers
Indian low‑cost carrier IndiGo introduced a new fare class called “IndiGo Lite,” aimed at travelers who carry only cabin baggage. The option is available on all domestic and international nonstop routes for economy‑class tickets booked through the airline’s website or mobile app. Passengers receive a 7 kg cabin‑bag allowance, an automatically assigned seat at no extra charge, and can still earn BluChip loyalty points. Additional services such as checked‑in baggage, seat selection, meals or priority boarding must be purchased separately, with a flat fee to upgrade to a 15 kg checked‑bag allowance.
Chief Strategy Officer Aloke Singh said the launch is “meant for light travel” and is part of IndiGo’s effort to expand a flexible product portfolio and make air travel more accessible. The fare was launched on 1 July, with flights from 15 July onward. IndiGo announced a 5‑7 % reduction in domestic capacity, cutting about 110 daily flights, citing rising aviation turbine fuel costs and weaker demand. The airline operates roughly 2,200 flights daily with a fleet of over 440 aircraft.
