Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH delays VAT refunds for first homes
The Indirect Taxation Authority (UIO) of Bosnia and Herzegovina has received 1,234 applications for VAT refunds related to the purchase of first-time properties. However, the authority has not yet been able to issue any payment decisions.
Zoran Tegeltija, Director of the UIO, attributed the delay to technical deficiencies in several institutions. Specifically, the Tax Administration of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Federal Ministry of Justice, and the Government of Brčko District lack the necessary technical support to establish cooperation with the UIO.
While institutions in Republika Srpska are reportedly ready, the technical issues in the other three entities are expected to be resolved by Monday, September 14. If these issues are addressed, the UIO anticipates being ready to issue the first refund decisions by Wednesday, September 16.
