Inditex targets US expansion with 20 new projects through 2027

Inditex, the Spanish fashion giant and owner of Zara, is launching a strategic expansion phase in the United States, targeting approximately 20 projects through 2027. CEO Oscar García Maceiras described the move as “selective growth,” focusing on profitability and high-purchasing-power consumers.

The expansion includes opening new Zara locations in Denver, Phoenix, and Pittsburgh. Additionally, the group plans to introduce its premium brand, Massimo Dutti, and the Gen Z-focused brand, Bershka, to New York following their recent presence in Miami. Specifically, Massimo Dutti is expected to open a store in Manhattan’s Soho district before Christmas.

To mitigate risk, Inditex evaluates local demand through online order data before committing to physical storefronts. This strategy aligns with a broader global shift for the company; while Inditex has reduced its total store count by 27% since January 2019 to focus on larger, more productive flagship locations, its total retail floor space has only decreased by 7%.
