Individual struggles highlighted in German documentary and reality television

Two separate personal narratives involving women named Jasmine have been featured in German media, highlighting different forms of hardship.

In a ZDF documentary titled ‘Windel mit 21’, a young woman named Jasmine shares her experience living with ulcerative colitis. After her symptoms were initially misdiagnosed as psychological issues by her GP, she suffered for three years, eventually needing to wear diapers to manage the condition. Following a hospital visit and a diagnosis, she received high-dose cortisone treatment which led to significant improvement.

In a separate context, the RTLZWEI reality series ‘Hartz und herzlich’ follows 22-year-old Jasmin, a pregnant recipient of citizen's benefit (Bürgergeld). The program depicts her struggles with financial instability, the challenges of moving into a new apartment in Güstrow, and the emotional toll of having her children previously placed in youth welfare care. The episode focuses on her despair following a disappointing appointment with the social welfare office.
