Indonesia accelerates permanent housing construction for disaster survivors

Local governments in Indonesia are accelerating the construction of permanent housing (huntap) for communities displaced by natural disasters.

In Agam, West Sumatra, the construction of 440 units is moving forward following a land-use agreement regarding former PT Inang Sari plantation land. The project includes 280 units funded by the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas and 160 units provided by the Buddha Tzu Chi Foundation. Land maturation is currently underway, with a target completion date of December 2026.

In Lebak, Banten, the government has initiated the first phase of building 104 permanent homes for flood and landslide survivors in Lebakgedong. This project follows a six-year delay where residents lived in temporary shelters. The first phase, covering 5.4 hectares with a budget of Rp23.4 billion, is also slated for completion by December 2026. A subsequent phase for 117 additional units is pending land readiness.
