Indonesia activates SIZE system to detect zoonotic diseases

The Indonesian government has launched the first phase of the Zoonosis and Emerging Infectious Diseases Information System (SIZE) for the Java-Bali region. The initiative aims to integrate health, animal, and environmental data to enable early detection of diseases that could trigger outbreaks, such as Nipah, hantavirus, and rabies.

By connecting the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the system facilitates a ‘One Health’ approach. This integration is designed to accelerate the tracing of infection sources and mitigate potential economic losses. The activation involves 40 selected regencies and cities, provincial governments, and various reference laboratories to strengthen cross-sectoral coordination and response capabilities.
