Indonesia addresses trade issues at G20 meeting
At the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee, United States, Indonesian Trade Minister Budi Santoso advocated for international cooperation to address three key trade issues: excess capacity, forced labor practices, and the application of Most Favored Nation (MFN) tariffs.
Regarding excess capacity, Santoso emphasized that assessments must be based on specific, analytical, and evidence-based findings for each sector rather than political labels. He noted that high production capacity or export surges do not automatically indicate structural excess capacity, as each sector possesses unique production cycles, supply chain structures, and technological scopes.
