Indonesia advances agricultural sustainability through technology and innovation

Agricultural initiatives in Indonesia are focusing on modernizing farming through technology and sustainable methods to bolster food security. In Sumedang, the Department of Agriculture and Food Security (DPKP) launched the ‘Revolper’ (Agricultural Revolution) technical guidance program in Banyuasih Village. Led by Dr. Tono Suhartono, the initiative aims to build a mindset among farmers to be more responsive to climate change and adopt efficient land management through research-based innovation involving the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and academic institutions.

In East Kalimantan, specifically within the Kutai Kartanegara Regency, farmers are implementing the Low External Input Sustainable Agriculture (LEISA) method combined with digital farming. A collaboration involving Bank Indonesia (BI) Kaltim and researchers from the Samarinda State Agricultural Polytechnic has utilized bio-invigoration technology to enhance seed strength. This approach has demonstrated success in maintaining crop productivity despite unpredictable weather patterns caused by El Niño, with reports indicating a significant increase in rice productivity.
