Indonesia advances digital population administration and identity services
Indonesia is advancing the digitalization of population administration through the Digital Population Identity (IKD) and integrated digital birth certificates. In Cirebon Regency, IKD activation reached 11.8 percent of the required population by September 2026. Officials noted that while activation is growing, challenges remain due to low digital literacy and a lack of compatible smartphones among some citizens.
To facilitate the transition, activation points have been expanded to 343 villages. Simultaneously, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Home Affairs have integrated the SATUSEHAT platform with the Population Administration Information System (SIAK). This integration allows for the rapid digital issuance of birth certificates, Family Cards, and Child Identity Cards for infants born in healthcare facilities. These digital documents are recognized for official purposes, including school enrollment requirements under current education regulations.
