Indonesia advances green industry through research and education

Efforts to advance sustainable industry in Indonesia are gaining momentum through academic research, industrial collaboration, and educational initiatives. Universitas Pertamina (UPER) is strengthening its research and collaboration in green chemistry to meet industrial needs, building on its role as the national coordinator for the Global Greenchem Innovation and Network Program (GGINP) Indonesia.

In July 2026, the Green Chemistry for Industrial Excellence (GCIE) program was held in Makassar, bringing together 50 industry players from 31 companies and institutions. The Ministry of Industry emphasized that transitioning to green industry through efficient resource use and waste reduction is essential for increasing national competitiveness.

Complementing these industrial efforts, the Central Java Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) is advocating for the introduction of green industry concepts in high schools and vocational schools (SMA and SMK). The goal is to prepare a workforce that understands energy efficiency, waste management, and sustainable economic principles from an early stage.
