Indonesia advances halal tourism at International Islamic Expo 2026

Indonesia hosted the International Islamic Expo (IIE) 2026 in Jakarta from June 26‑28, bringing together tourism officials, umrah‑hajj travel agents, investors, buyers and foreign government representatives. Ministry staff Masruroh said the forum aims to strengthen partnerships, exchange ideas and open new opportunities for Muslim‑friendly tourism and the global halal ecosystem.

Indonesia was ranked second worldwide in the Global Muslim Travel Index 2026, underscoring its ambition to become a leading halal‑tourism destination. The expo is expected to expand business networks and generate economic benefits for hotels, restaurants, transport, creative industries and micro‑, small‑ and medium‑enterprises. The 2025 edition featured 120 exhibitors from 15 countries, 3,877 buyers, 22,802 visitors and about Rp105 billion (US$6 million) in transactions, and officials anticipate even larger results this year.
