Indonesia and China deepen energy and climate partnership

Indonesia’s Environment Minister Jumhur Hidayat met with China’s special climate envoy Liu Zhenmin in Jakarta on July 30 to reaffirm a bilateral commitment to expand cooperation on energy and climate action. Both sides stressed that environmental protection is a foundation for sustainable economic growth, with Hidayat noting, “Indonesia believes that environment protection is not a burden in development. It is a foundation of sustainable economic growth.”

The parties agreed to focus on tangible projects such as renewable‑energy investment, battery‑based electric‑vehicle ecosystems, solar‑panel manufacturing and green‑industry supply chains. They also pledged to enhance early‑warning disaster systems, green‑technology transfer, capacity building and circular‑economy initiatives, aiming to deliver direct benefits to the peoples of both nations and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.
