Indonesia and Congo implement new nickel and cobalt supply measures
Major mineral producers are implementing new policies to manage supply and processing. Indonesia is considering a moratorium on new nickel processing facilities that only produce intermediate products, a move aimed at managing the country's dominant position in the global nickel market.
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, cobalt export quotas have been established for 2026 and 2027, with annual limits set at a maximum of 96,600 tonnes. This follows a previous export stop and has led to predictions of potential market deficits.
In North America, Canada Nickel is advancing its Crawford nickel and cobalt project in Ontario, having recently received a federal environmental permit decision. Additionally, NexMetals Mining Corp. is reporting progress on its resource data.
