Indonesia and Singapore assert neutral AI policies amid US‑China competition
Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the country will not side with either China or the United States on artificial intelligence, describing AI as a neutral technology tool. He referenced Indonesia’s recent participation in the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO) launched by China and its involvement in the U.S.–led “Pax Silica” initiative, stressing that both efforts focus on different aspects of digital cooperation.
Singapore’s Minister for Digital and Information Josephine Teo emphasized that AI must serve humanity, not replace workers. She outlined policies to upskill the workforce, provide corporate incentives for AI adoption, and ensure trust, social cohesion, and economic growth as core pillars of the nation’s AI strategy.
