Indonesia and UNFCCC boost Asia-Pacific climate cooperation via REDD+

The Indonesian government and the UNFCCC Secretariat are working to strengthen cooperation on forest governance and climate financing in the Asia-Pacific region through the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) initiative.

At the ‘REDD+ Community of Practice Regional Meeting for Asia-Pacific Countries’ held in Bali, experts, government officials, and forestry practitioners gathered to exchange technical expertise and devise strategies to combat deforestation and forest degradation. Haruni Krisnawati, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Forestry on Climate Change, stated that REDD+ is vital for both global climate governance and national forest management.

Dirk Nemitz, Team Lead for AFOLU at the UNFCCC Secretariat, noted that the forum aims to address the complex funding and governance landscape following the implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. The meeting focuses on facilitating knowledge exchange and ensuring concrete implementation of REDD+ across the region.
