Indonesia anticipates Qatar investment as foreign tourism climbs
Indonesia is preparing for a state visit by Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the end of 2026, marking 50 years of diplomatic ties. In talks with President Prabowo Subianto, Qatar pledged to expand its investments in Indonesia to about US$4 billion across multiple sectors.
At the same time, the Indonesian Government Communications Agency reported that foreign tourist arrivals rose to 4.68 million between January and April 2026, an 8.24 % increase over the same period in 2025. Average spending per visitor grew 5.36 % to US$1,345.61, boosting foreign‑exchange earnings by 6.30 % to roughly Rp68.28 trillion. Tourism’s contribution to GDP is estimated at 4.01‑5.00 % for the first quarter, supported by more than 6,200 tourist villages and 38 events that have attracted 1.19 million visitors so far this year.
