Indonesia appoints Edi Nurhabad as BNPP Deputy for Border Infrastructure

Indonesian Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian, acting as the Head of the National Border Management Agency (BNPP), has inaugurated Major General TNI Edi Nurhabad as the Deputy for Border Area Infrastructure Management. The appointment, based on Presidential Decree Number 121/TPA of 2026, took place at the BNPP office in Jakarta.

During the inauguration, Tito Karnavian emphasized the need to map and prioritize infrastructure needs to ensure border regions are not marginalized or left behind. He highlighted the importance of developing roads, bridges, housing, and office buildings to promote social justice and equitable development. Specific connectivity issues were noted, such as incomplete road networks in certain parts of Kalimantan and segments in the Indonesia-Papua New Guinea border area that remain unconnected.

Furthermore, the Minister called for a comprehensive assessment of port requirements, particularly in island regions and border areas with limited transport access, to be coordinated with the Ministry of Transportation. The appointment of active military personnel to this role follows Law Number 3 of 2025 regarding the Indonesian National Armed Forces.
