Indonesia appoints leadership for new Mineral and Strategic Commodity Exchange
Indonesia is advancing the establishment of the Mineral and Strategic Commodity Exchange (BMKS) through key leadership appointments at the Financial Services Authority (OJK). OJK Chairperson Friderica Widyasari Dewi has inaugurated Henry Rialdi as the Deputy Commissioner for Regulation and Supervision of the BMKS.
In a separate development, Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has unanimously approved Sarjito to serve as the Commissioner and Chief Executive of BMKS Supervision for the 2026–2031 period. This appointment follows the mandate of the Law on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (UU P2SK).
The BMKS aims to strengthen national economic sovereignty by transforming Indonesia from a price taker to a price maker for its natural resources. The exchange is expected to address issues such as transfer pricing and under-invoicing while promoting transparent price formation. Initial supervision will prioritize three strategic commodities: coal, nickel, and palm oil. The goal is to have the exchange operational by January 1, 2027.
