Indonesia, Australia and Timor Leste Boost Border Crime Cooperation

Police officials from Indonesia, Australia and Timor Leste met in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, and agreed to deepen intelligence sharing and joint response mechanisms to curb transnational crime along their shared borders. Senior Commissioner Henry Novika Chandra said, "The synergy between Indonesian, Australian, and Timor Leste police forces should be strengthened through intensive communication, prompt information exchange, and effective coordination to ensure early detection and handling of transnational crime threats."

The trilateral agreement targets human trafficking, drug and chemical smuggling, livestock and vehicle theft, and illegal border crossings. Australian Federal Police Federal Agent Sarah Hammond warned that criminal syndicates use maritime and land routes in the region as transit pathways, stressing that a single country cannot manage the threat alone. The three forces pledged to establish faster, secure intelligence exchange channels and a coordinated joint response system to maintain stability at the Indonesia‑Timor Leste border and routes to Australia.
