Indonesia authorities investigate multiple regional corruption cases
Indonesian authorities are conducting multiple investigations into corruption and bribery involving regional officials. In South Sorong, the Sorong District Attorney's Office questioned the former Regent, identified as SA, regarding the alleged mismanagement of operational funds for the 2023 fiscal year. The investigation follows an audit suggesting state losses of approximately Rp7 billion.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is also active in several cases. In Sukoharjo, the KPK summoned former Deputy Regent Agus Santosa as a witness in an extortion case involving the inactive Regent, Etik Suryani. This follows a sting operation in July 2026 that led to several suspects.
Additionally, the KPK has scheduled an examination for Andi Saiful Haq, a special staff member to the Minister of Forestry, in connection with a bribery investigation in the Kuantan Singingi Regency. The case involves allegations of bribery related to job positions and forest area management.
