Indonesia avtur prices rise, triggering higher flight fuel surcharge limits

PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has adjusted aviation fuel (avtur) prices across several Indonesian airports for the September 2026 period. At Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK), prices rose from Rp 21,102 per liter in August to Rp 22,471 per liter. Other major airports, including Juanda (SUB), Sultan Hasanuddin (UPG), and Kualanamu (KNO), also saw price increases.

In response to rising fuel costs, the Ministry of Transportation has increased the maximum limit for fuel surcharges on domestic flights from 30% to 40% of the upper fare limit. This adjustment follows a 6.5% increase in avtur prices, which reached approximately Rp 23,315 per liter. The change in surcharge limits is designed to allow airlines to manage costs when fuel prices fluctuate, though critics note the scale of the surcharge increase may disproportionately impact ticket prices.
