Indonesia beverage trends: Coffee and tea lead consumption
A survey by Jakpat involving 1,238 respondents indicates that coffee and tea are the most popular beverages in Indonesia, with consumption rates of 72% and 71% respectively. The study, which included Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X, shows that coffee consumption is particularly high among Gen X (79%) and Millennials (74%), while tea remains a staple across all age groups.
In the growing milk tea market, several brands have established a presence in Indonesia. Teazzi, originating from Taiwan, offers various oolong-based options; Tianlala provides affordable choices across the Jabodetabek and Bandung regions; and Chagee, a premium brand from China, expanded into Indonesia in April 2025.
Regarding health, experts advise caution when pairing coffee with certain foods. Consuming coffee with citrus fruits may trigger digestive issues like acid reflux, especially for those with GERD. Additionally, combining coffee with fried foods may increase cardiovascular risks due to high fat and sodium content, while consuming coffee alongside milk may interfere with optimal calcium absorption.
