Indonesia Blockchain Week 2026 marks shift to creative economy status

The Indonesia Blockchain Week (IDBW) 2026 concluded on August 13 at the Jakarta International Convention Center, drawing over 12,000 attendees and more than 75 speakers from 30 countries. The event is recognized as Southeast Asia’s largest institutional Web3 conference, supported by over 300 ecosystem partners.

A significant development accompanying the summit is the official integration of blockchain into Indonesia’s national creative economy. Following a Presidential Regulation signed in early July 2026, blockchain, along with AI, IoT/Web3, and cybersecurity, has been designated as official subsectors of the creative economy.

This policy shift moves blockchain beyond traditional financial or securities regulation, positioning it as a strategic driver for innovation and digital transformation. Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya emphasized that the goal is for Indonesia to become a builder of technology rather than just a market, noting the creative economy's significant contribution to the national GDP.
