Gresik, Indonesia busts 3.37‑ton international cannabis shipment

Indonesia’s customs and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) seized 3.37 tons of cannabis buds in a joint operation at the Prambanan Bizland warehouse complex in Gresik, East Java. The haul was uncovered after an X‑ray scan at Jakarta’s Tanjung Priok port flagged suspicious cargo, leading to a controlled‑delivery raid that traced four containers to the Gresik warehouse.

The operation involved BNN, customs officers, police and the armed forces. Investigators secured four trucks, 500 suitcases and dozens of latex‑wrapped bundles, and detained 12 suspects believed to be part of an international trafficking network spanning Malaysia, China, Thailand and a Vietnamese national who reportedly rented the warehouse. BNN officials said the seizure prevented the conversion of the buds into liquid‑vape products and averted an estimated economic loss of Rp 4.58 trillion, while claiming to have protected roughly 10.1 million potential users from harm.

Authorities announced that further investigation and weighing of the seized material will continue, with senior BNN leaders slated to brief the press on the case’s details.
