Indonesia expands agricultural production and halal industry

Indonesia is implementing several strategic initiatives to bolster its agricultural and halal sectors. In Lampung, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman announced the provision of 2.6 million coffee and cocoa seedlings to support 18,000 hectares of cultivation. Additionally, the government is targeting sugar self-sufficiency by developing 30,000 hectares of new sugarcane in Lampung and allocating approximately Rp1.7 trillion for the rejuvenation of smallholder sugarcane crops.

To support the broader plantation sector, the Coordinating Ministry for Food is harmonizing revisions to Presidential Regulation Number 132 of 2024. This regulatory update aims to strengthen financing governance and improve access for independent smallholders, particularly in the palm oil, cocoa, and coconut sectors.

On the economic front, the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) reported that halal value chains contributed approximately 27 percent to Indonesia's GDP in the third quarter of 2025. The agency is pushing to expand the halal industry beyond certification, focusing on increasing production capacity, investment, and global competitiveness to transform Indonesia from a consumer into a major global producer.
