Indonesia Boosts Laboratory Capacity and Sacrificial Animal Inspection for Disease Surveillance

The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) enhanced its laboratory standards by conducting a Laboratory Mapping Tool and Proficiency Test refresher training from June 2‑5, 2026. The program, carried out with the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry under the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness Regional Emerging Disease Support, aimed to improve detection and monitoring of animal diseases across Indonesia.

In West Bandung Regency, the local Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Office inspected more than 21,000 sacrificial animals for the 2026 Idul Adha celebrations. Ante‑mortem checks examined 11,547 animals, with 10,116 declared healthy. Post‑mortem examinations found 45 cases of liver worm infestation, which were removed and destroyed. Both initiatives were intended to ensure safe meat for consumers and strengthen nationwide animal disease surveillance.
