Indonesia Boosts Oversight of Muntok White Pepper Exports
Indonesia’s Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Agency in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province is intensifying supervision of Muntok white pepper shipments to sustain farmer confidence and meet strong international demand. Agency head Herwintarti said, "The international market continues to show strong demand for white pepper," and noted that the Go Export Program will help improve export performance and product quality.
Export data show that in 2025 the province shipped 1.37 thousand tonnes of white pepper in 184 consignments, generating roughly Rp180 billion (US$9.7 million). Domestic distribution reached 6,323 tonnes across 308 shipments, valued at about Rp535.9 billion (US$28.8 million). Main overseas markets are Vietnam, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia and Taiwan. Production fell to 9,647 tonnes in 2025 from 12,009 tonnes in 2024, a decline linked to the conversion of pepper farms to oil‑palm plantations.
