Indonesia Boosts Sustainable Forest Management Leadership at ASEAN Meeting

Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to leading sustainable forest management at the 21st ASEAN Working Group on Forest Management meeting in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The delegation, headed by public‑relations chief Ristianto Pribadi and supported by Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni, presented progress such as updated national forest statistics, technology‑based monitoring systems, nature‑based solutions and expanded regional cooperation.

Key points highlighted included Indonesia’s 123.9 million hectares of forest, of which 67 million hectares are sustainably managed production forest, and the strengthening of the Timber Legality and Sustainability Verification System (SVLK+). The government also promoted its Social Forestry Program, which grants local communities management rights over about 8.4 million hectares, benefits over 1.4 million households and has fostered more than 16,600 Social Forestry Business Groups (KUPS). A new regulation (Forestry Minister Regulation No. 6 of 2026) on procedures for carbon economic value was introduced to advance high‑integrity forest carbon governance.
