Indonesia broadcasting entities address cyber threats and public service mandates

In West Java, the Regional Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPID) is emphasizing the need to strengthen broadcasting institutions to counter cyber threats and protect the cognitive sovereignty of the public. KPID West Java Chairperson Dr. Adiyana Slamet highlighted that the massive influx of digital information poses risks of disinformation and hoaxes, particularly for Gen Z and post-Gen Z populations, who comprise approximately 69.12 percent of the province's residents. To address this, KPID is collaborating with the West Java Scout Movement (Gerakan Pramuka) and the Communication and Informatics Office to promote information literacy.

Separately, in Jakarta, members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) are conducting fit and proper tests for candidates for the Supervisory Board of Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) for the 2026-2031 period. Commission VII member Novita Hardini stressed that the board must prioritize public interest and the welfare of broadcasting workers. She specifically raised concerns regarding the protection of contributors, honorary staff, and government employees with work agreements (PPPK) amidst budget tightening, urging the board to ensure that efficiency does not compromise RRI's mandate to serve vulnerable groups and maintain independence.
