Indonesia BSPS housing program faces delays in Bone and acceleration efforts in Medan
The implementation of the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) program is facing challenges in different regions of Indonesia. In Bone Regency, specifically in the Sibulue District, beneficiaries have reportedly demolished their homes but have not yet received the promised building materials. The District Head of Sibulue, Sainal Abidin, expressed frustration over the delay and criticized the procurement mechanism, noting that materials are being sourced from shops in a different district, which limits the beneficiaries' ability to choose local suppliers.
In Medan, Mayor Rico Waas has committed to accelerating the BSPS program to ensure that 898 housing units are completed by December 2026. Following a coordination meeting with the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruarar Sirait, the Medan city government is working to resolve technical issues such as data validation and recipient eligibility. The city aims to expedite the process from administration to physical construction to secure larger budget allocations for the following year.
