Indonesia campaigns for UN Security Council seat
Indonesia is campaigning for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2029–2030 term. To support this bid, the Indonesian government will host a diplomatic reception in New York during the 81st UN General Assembly.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang stated that Indonesia’s candidacy is built upon its track record in peacekeeping, peacebuilding, and multilateral cooperation. The nation aims to serve as a ‘bridge builder’ to foster dialogue and find common ground among Security Council members.
Indonesia intends to represent the perspectives and priorities of the Global South, advocating for an effective and responsive Security Council. Key commitments include focusing on preventive diplomacy, conflict prevention, the protection of civilians, and enhancing peacekeeping efforts.
