Indonesia citizens reportedly recruited by Russian military
The Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine (FISU) has reported that eight Indonesian citizens have been recruited to join the Russian military. According to FISU, these individuals were allegedly offered high salaries before being deployed to the front lines against Ukraine. One of the identified individuals is a resident of Depok, West Java, named Wahyu Oktavian Iskandar, who reportedly held a Russian visa from April to August 2026.
Local acquaintances stated that the individual in question is a civilian with no prior military training or background. Following the intelligence report, local authorities in Depok reportedly visited the residence of the individual's parents.
In response to these reports, Indonesian legislator Sukamta has called on the government to verify the facts before making legal conclusions, such as the potential loss of citizenship. He emphasized the need to determine whether these citizens applied for military service, were recruited while abroad, or were pursuing other employment opportunities.
