Indonesia cocoa processing volume rises in third quarter 2026
Indonesia's national cocoa processing industry recorded an increase in cocoa bean grinding volume during the third quarter of 2026. According to data from the Ministry of Industry, the grinding volume reached 112,628 metric tons (MT), marking a steady rise from 84,844 MT in the first quarter and 110,410 MT in the second quarter.
Jeffrey Haribowo, Chairman of the Indonesian Cocoa Association – Cocoa Sustainability Partnership (ASKINDO-CSP), stated that this growth reflects the resilience of the national processing industry amidst global cocoa market dynamics. The increase is viewed as an indicator of growing industrial activity, capacity, and the development of value-added processed products.
In a related effort to boost plantation competitiveness, Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Alim Setiawan Slamet, is pushing for downstreaming (hilirisasi) in the plantation sector. This initiative focuses on utilizing research and innovation to transform commodities like coffee and cocoa into high-value products capable of competing in global markets through increased collaboration between research centers, universities, and industry.
