Indonesia commodity update: Palm oil prices dip in West Sumatra as cocoa prices rise

Agricultural commodity prices in Indonesia are seeing divergent trends. In West Sumatra, the price of Fresh Fruit Bunches (TBS) for palm oil for the first period of October 2026 has decreased by Rp20.33 per kg (approximately 0.51%). For palm trees aged 10–20 years, the price is set at Rp3,966.94 per kg. The Crude Palm Oil (CPO) price used for this calculation is Rp15,554.38 per kg.

In contrast, global cocoa prices are rising, impacting Indonesian export references. The Ministry of Trade set the cocoa bean reference price for October 2026 at US$6,057.87 per metric ton, a 7.49% increase from the previous period. The Export Benchmark Price (HPE) for cocoa was also raised to US$5,686 per metric ton. This upward trend is driven by supply concerns in West Africa, where El Niño-related weather anomalies, crop diseases, and aging trees have threatened production in major producing nations like Ivory Coast and Ghana.
