Indonesia communities perform Salat Istisqa prayers for rain and safety

Communities in Indonesia are conducting Salat Istisqa, a prayer for rain, to address various regional crises. In Grobogan, students from the Hidayatullah Foundation held the prayer on September 6, 2026, to combat a four-month drought that has caused water shortages in 96 villages across 19 districts.

In Lampung, thousands gathered at the Korpri Field on September 10, 2026, for similar prayers. In addition to seeking rain, the community prayed for the safe return of five journalists and three speedboat crew members who had lost contact. The prayers in Lampung also coincide with ongoing concerns regarding volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau, though officials noted that ash distribution has begun to decrease.
