Blueray Cargo executives sentenced for customs bribery

Owner John Field, operational manager Deddy Kurniawan Sukolo and document‑team chief Andri of Blueray Cargo were found guilty of bribing officials of Indonesia’s Directorate General of Customs and Excise. The Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Field to two years in prison and a fine of Rp300 million, while Sukolo and Andri each received 1 year 6 months behind bars and fines of Rp200 million. Prosecutors had sought longer terms – up to three years for Field and two years six months for the others – but the judges cited mitigating factors such as the defendants’ remorse, lack of prior convictions and family responsibilities.

The court heard that the trio paid a total of roughly Rp91.7 billion in cash, luxury watches, a Mazda CX‑5, entertainment facilities and other benefits to customs officials to expedite the clearance of Blueray Cargo’s imports. Judge Brelly Yuniar Dien stated, “Menyatakan para terdakwa terbukti secara sah dan meyakinkan bersalah turut serta melakukan tindak pidana korupsi secara berlanjut,” and noted that the illicit payments failed to improve the company’s customs processing.

The convictions underscore Indonesia’s ongoing anti‑corruption drive within the customs sector and highlight the legal risks for private firms attempting to influence import procedures.
