Indonesia cracks down on corruption in social assistance staff and regional project contracts

The Ministry of Social Affairs announced disciplinary actions after the Audit Board identified 1,747 PKH program assistants who allegedly held additional jobs in 2025, potentially compromising their duties. An internal review classified violations by severity, leading to administrative sanctions, salary recoveries amounting to at least Rp7.9 billion, and the reinstatement of 833 assistants cleared of wrongdoing.

Separately, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) disclosed a sting operation in Langkat Regency that captured a private contractor and a regional official exchanging kick‑backs for direct‑procurement contracts worth roughly Rp10.2 billion. The contractor, Yaqub Abdhal Al Mu'arif, paid fees of 10‑17 percent to the official, Syah Afandin, through multiple transfers. Both were named suspects – Afandin as a bribe‑receiver and Al Mu'arif as a bribe‑giver.

Both cases illustrate Indonesia's intensified enforcement of anti‑corruption measures across government agencies and local administrations.
