Indonesia cracks down on illegal gold mining as former miner sues media

Former gold miner Febrianto “Anto” Tangahu denied media reports that he still managed illegal gold mining (PETI) in Moyombonau and announced plans to issue a legal notice to the outlet for defamation. He said he left mining in 2018 and now focuses on community work.

Meanwhile, the Riau Provincial Police (Polda Riau) arrested six individuals suspected of operating PETI in Serosah village, Kuantan Singingi Regency. The suspects were seized with mining equipment and charged under Indonesia’s mining law. Police said the operation is part of their “Green Policing” program to eliminate illegal mining.
