Indonesia customs seize 1.6 million illegal cigarettes in Bali, 29,780 in Ambon

Indonesia’s customs agencies intensified actions against untaxed tobacco in 2026. In Bali, officers conducted 23 operations between January and May, confiscating at least 1.6 million cigarette sticks, including a single haul of 1.4 million sticks on 15 May that averted an estimated loss of Rp1.3 billion.

In Ambon, the “ASAP” (Amankan Sumber Asal Penerimaan) operation ran from 8 to 30 June, with five raids across Ambon city, Masohi, and Central Maluku. Customs seized 29,780 illegal cigarettes, valued at roughly Rp43.3 million, and prevented losses of about Rp26.7 million. Offenders received administrative fines totaling Rp55.3 million.
