Indonesia data center market sees growth potential amid digital expansion

Indonesia is emerging as a significant market for data center growth in the Asia Pacific region, driven by rapid digital transformation, increasing cloud adoption, and a large young population. Serene Nah, Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific at Digital Realty, noted that while developed nations like Singapore and Japan have stable cloud needs, developing nations like Indonesia are seeing massive growth potential in sectors such as finance and insurance.

Key challenges for the sector include ensuring energy reliability, connectivity, and establishing data sovereignty. Digital Realty has expressed commitment to helping companies manage workloads through secure, resilient local data center services.

In a related move within the local market, PT Repower Asia Indonesia Tbk (REAL) is diversifying into the data center sector through its subsidiary, PT Repower Global Sinergitama. The company signed a memorandum of understanding with PT Quanta Tunas Abadi, an internet service provider, to prepare for a potential acquisition aimed at developing managed services and IT infrastructure to capitalize on artificial intelligence (AI) trends.
